Overview

Yagatta and Sheoeiru, also known as First Outside, is a large island nation located north of the Aperin subcontinent on the Maestos Ocean. The nation consists of two large islands, Yagatta-Sheoeiru and Derai, it's nearest neighbour is the island nation of Free Socialism to the west. Currently Yagatta And Sheoieru is basically a closed nation, following political unrest and a collapse of most govermental institutions in the early 00's.

History

Ancient Times

How or why the people now usually referred to as Yagatta arrived into the islands they inhabit today is not known. Their only relatives in the Aperin double continents are the people of Xikuang, to whom the Yagatta bear some genetical, as well as lingustical, resemblance. Some scientist theorise that the 'Xikuang-Yagatta' race was once predominant in northern part of Aperin, but were later replaced by new arrivals from the south, and the Xikuang-Yagatta race and culture survived only in the isolated areas of Xikuang and Yagatta and Sheoeiru. However, there has not been enough scientific proof for or against this theory to make any positive claims for or against it. It is suffice to say that since the ancient times, the islands have been inhabited by a people whose language, culture and physical appearance bears little to no resemblance with those of neighbouring areas.

Three Kingdoms

Ever since the first recording of history in the islands have been made, Yagatta and Sheoeiru has been divided into three individual kingdoms: Yagatta, Sheoeiru and Derai. In addition there have been occasional smaller independent states, but the three kingdoms have always retained a hegemony over the islands.

The first big change to this came to this in the 16th century, when the King of Derai died, without any alive male relatives to inherit the crown. According to Derai law a woman could not rule the kingdom, but the only offspring of the king was a girl, princess Lusheeta. In an amazing feat of diplomacy and threats Sheruno Sha, the king of Yagatta, forced the Derai to allow him to marry princess Lusheeta and become the king of Derai as well as Yagatta.

Yagattan Hegemony

Over the following decades Derai was fully incorporated into Yagatta, so that for all intents and purposes only one kingdom now existed, and unlike ever before, one kingdom in the islands was clearly more powerful than any of the others. Slowly but surely over the centuries Sheoeiru became a vassal state to Yagatta, until in 1708, after an unsuccessful attempt by the last king of Sheoeiru to break free from Yagattan hegemony, Yagattan troops conquered Sheoeiru, and the kings of Yagatta became Emperors of the whole isles.

Before that, in the mid-1600's, explorers from other parts of Aperin had arrived at the islands and opened trade-routes. By a pecualier twist of fate the language of the islands lacks a collective name for the islands themselves: each kingdom was always referred to by it's nation name and that was it. However, the foreigners, wishing to give a name to the islands as a group, stated calling them by the simple name of Outside. A fitting title, considering the islands had been, until recently, outside the known world. When Yando Sha proclaimed an empire streching over the islands in 1708, it was officially named The Empire of Outside, without paying attention to the actual meaning od the word "outside", it was lifted wholesale from Celdonian.

Isolation and Imperialism

In 1763, fearful of the foreigners gaining influence and affecting local ways and economy, other nationals were forbitted from entering Outside, except for limited trade at the island city of Minda. in this state of affairs the world had to content itself in. Unfortunately for the people of Outside, in other parts of the world the industrial revolution began, and the empire was left out of the developing world, barred from development by it's isolationism.

Things changed in 1877 when young prince Kawa Sha became the emperor after his father's death. The young prince had been one of the few Outsiders to travel outside their nation, and was convinced the Empire had to open itself to the world and modernise, or the other nations would come and open the doors by force. When ascending to the throne, Kawa Sha made true of his ideals, and in a few decades Outside was transformed from a backwards, little developed nation into an industrialised nation and a notable international player.

Kawa Sha wanted his nation to be an Empire on the large scale, and started acquiring colonies from other parts of the world. The continuous expansion unfortunately was to lead into trouble.

The Greater Aperin War

Outside had allied with Anhierarch and Guo Leng, forming a three-edge alliance aiming for increasing the powers of it's members. Unfortunately the agressive politics of the alliance led to a conflict with various powers in western Aperin and finally the Greater Aperin War in the mid-1910's. To make a long story short, the Outside / Guo Leng / Anhierarch alliance lost the war. Kawa Sha was ousted from the throne, and his place was taken over by his son Mica Sha, who attempted to make various democratic reforms. These were unsuccessful, and Mica Sha was assassinated by a military junta in 1925.

Orderly Chaos from Chaos

The following decades were chaos. Despite being now officially called a republic, Outside was nothing of the kind. Dictators followed one another in quick succession, and all attempts of democratic reforms failed.

After the war socialistic ideas had gained large support in continental Aperin, starting with Celdonia. These started gaining popularity in Outside as well, which led to a large underground movement demanding equal distribution of wealth and direct democracy. Finally in 1961 a revolution came, and a year later First People's Republic of Outside was born. The formative years of the First People's Republic were not easy, decades of corruption and opression were hard to shake off. In the end the nation turned from one extremity to another, replacing lack of democracy with an abundance of democracy, the ruling bodies were almost unable of functioning due to continous demands of nation-wide votings on any and all subjects. Yet a functioning society was formed in the end.

Internationalising

In the mid-1970's the first Conference of Anti Capitalist Economies was held in Glasburgh, Celdonia. Representatives from Outside were in attendance in the conference, and the nation became one of the fouding members of the Coalition of Anti-Capitalist Economies, formed in the said conference. What resulted was an era of international activity for Outside.

At the same time, the concept of 'direct democracy' was furthered in the nation. In the early 90's, during the time when Daniel E. Cotollus was the chancellor of the nation, a nation-wide voting network was developed in collaboration with technical experts from SeOCC, allowing any subject to voted on, at nearly any time, by the entire population of the nation (at this time commonly referred to First Outside).

Return to Chaos

There can be such a thing as too much freedom, which was discovered in the early 00's by citizens of First Outside. At this time the nation was officially United Socialist States of First Outside, with each individual state having large autonomous control. Then in 2002 the citizens of Derai-e province voted to create a capitalist system in the province. In the voting networks debated ran for weeks, trying to decide what to do with the matter. The result was anarchy, especially after a group of capitalist terrorists acked into voting networks in five provinces and altered election results. The govermental structure broke down and for several months there was no authority in charge of the islands.

The Second Socialist Republic

Finally in 2005 some control was gained over the nation when troops led by Nichiko Uchi were able to consolidate rule over most of the provinces. A new constitution was drafted, this time highly restricting political freedoms. The new rulers officially resigned the nation from all international organisations, and concentrated on rebuilding the nation. At this time the name Outside was also abandoned for good, with the nation being called The Second People's Republic of Yagatta, Sheoeiru and Derai (though most sources, including this article, do away with the last name).

Geography

To be added.

People

Usually referred to as Yagatta, though officially nationals of each individual historical kingdom should be called by their own names, i.e. an inhabitant of Yagatta is a Yagatta, of Sheoeiru a Sheoeiru and of Derai a Derai.

You guessed what this will say.

Names of the Nation

During it's long history Yagatta and Sheoeiru has been called with a multiplicity of names, creating some confusion. Here is an attempt to explain them.

Originally there was no word for the group of islands the Yagatta inhabit. The first name for the united nation was then lifted from the Celdonian language. At the time Celdonian and other tradesmen referred to the islands as Outside, as they had been otuside the known world from their point of view for quite some time. Without paying attention to meaning of the word, Yando Sha named the united empire Outside, which in order to differentiate from the generic word outside often became Imperial Outside amongst the Celdonian-speaking world.

In the 1960's the First People's Republic of Outside was established. The clumsy term soon morphed into simply First Outside both amongst locals and foreigners, and by that name most people still refer to the nation.

In the 2000's, with the re-establishment of most state functions after a period of anarchy, it was decided that the name Outside would be abandoned as incorrect, and the nation's official name would henceforth be the Second People's Republic of Yagatta, Sheoeiru and Derai. However, most articles, even official ones, shorten the term to Yagatta and Sheoeiru, often to plain Yagatta.
