The Yns Caribou, sometimes known as reindeer when domesticated, is a semi-arctic and arctic-dwelling deer most commonly sighted on the Qu'Maen Plains of Domnonia and throughout the Keeslands.

Appearance

The weight of a female varies between 60 and 170 kg, the male can weigh up to 300 kg. Both sexes grow antlers, which for old males fall off in December, for young males in the spring and for females during the summer. The antlers typically have two separate groups of points, a lower and upper. Domesticated Yns Caribou(reindeer) are shorter-legged and heavier than their wild counterparts. The Yns Caribou of the Keeslands can run at speeds up to 50 miles per hour and may travel 3,000 miles in a year.

Occurrence

The Yns Caribou is distributed throughout a number of northern locales on the IDU mainland. Most notably, the Keeslands and Eastern Keeslands.

Significance

Yns Caribou have been herded for centuries by the Qu'domini people of Domnonia. They are raised for their meat, hides and antlers, and also for milk and transportation. Yns Caribou are not considered fully domesticated, as they generally roam free on pasture grounds. In traditional nomadic herding, the Qu'domini migrated with their herds between coast and inland areas according to an annual migration route, and herds were keenly tended. However, Yns Caribou have never been bred in captivity, though they were tamed for milking as well as for use as beasts of burden.
