Greater Tommy Douglas Link (abbreviated GTD-Link) runs south 750 metres from Peterson Street in Locke Harbour Southeast, Locke Harbour City State (LHCS) to Darlington Avenue in Greater Tommy Douglas, LHCS.
The GTD-Link was originally designated the number PHS-100 however in 1958 it was renamed the Greater Tommy Douglas Link prior to it being opened in 1959.
The Greater Tommy Douglas Link was originally designed to provide an alternative expressway link to and from the cities of Greater Tommy Douglas and Locke Harbour to help alleviate the pressure at the junction of highways PHS-101 and PHS-116. Grassroots protests and political lobbying however forced the highway to be halted during construction for about a year. In 1958, after numerous debates and an outright war of words in the media between the federal government and the city of Locke Harbour Southeast, the federal government relented and upon completition of the already begun 750 metres, transferred ownership and maintenance of the GTD-Link to the cities of Greater Tommy Douglas and Locke Harbour Southeast.
In recent years there has been talk of tearing down the entire GTD-Link however opposition from the municipal government of the city of Greater Tommy Douglas has prevented this from occuring.
Exit list
