How the rankings work

All teams are given a rank between 2.75 and 5.00. The winner of the cup gets 5.00 points and each semi-finalist has .25 points deducted. All quaterfinalists are .15 points apart and all teams to qualify for the knock-out stages are separated by /05 points each. All teams who qualify for the Women's World Cup receive 3.00 points each.

To avoid good teams from receiving massive points bonuses, in each successive cup, the points you earn are cut in half and only the last 3 Cups count towards your Rank. Therefore the Highest number of points any team can have is 8.75 points and the worst anyone can have(after competeing in 3 cups or qualifying stages) is 4.8125. Leaving a difference of 3.9375 points between the #1 team and the lowest ranked team. Therefore almost any team can qualify for the Cup one year, and have a decent shot at winning it. (also improving the chances of big upsets and less stagnation at the top.)
