Democratic elections are held every six years, in which the people elect members to the 228-seat House of Representatives, where the LaivNFang Liberal Party currently holds the balance of power. In January 2007, the Government passed legislation introducing parlimentary unicameralism, uniting both Houses and merging the offices of the President and Prime Minister. Former Prime Minister, Mr Kristian S. Hayes immediately gained complete control of his party room and in turn, both State and Government and was sworn in as President of LaivNFang on January 11.

Former Transport Minister, Emma Lee was reassigned as Secretary of State, responsible for Foreign Affairs. General Barrett retained his portfolio in Defense, as did Michael Hodgman, who remained Attorney-General. Kim C. Breezley was endorsed as Ambassador to the United Nations and Paul Hollick was confirmed as Secretary of the Treasury. Hollick was replaced on March 1 due to poor performance, by Vice President, Amanda Vanstoner.
