The Hero of the Democratic Soviet Republic of Kahanistan is Kahanistan's highest military honor.

Criteria

The Hero of the Republic, to use the short form that even most military personnel use, is awarded for instances of extreme heroism. It is estimated that over three-quarters of awards of the Hero of the Republic are posthumous.

Criticism

Living Heroes of the Republic are often in demand as military commanders, even if they have little or no command aptitude. Some mid-level officers feel that a hero's presence on the battlefield supports morale, but this is not borne out by surveys of low-ranking combat soldiers.

List of Heroes of the Republic

Years listed are the dates the medal was awarded to the recipient listed.

Grant Foster, 2006
Nadia Sklenova, 1995
Marcellus Valens, 1966, 1989 (the only individual to be awarded the medal twice)
