Overview
The Kaeneian starship Scoperta is the result of a classified experimental program into temporal displacement and re-materialisation, or "Time Travel" - originally a soley Kaeneian project but later expanded to include a number of foreign envoys; Cetagandan, Der Angst and Dominion with the former being in part exchange for the supplying of a functional Temporal matrix by which a drive could subsequently be assembled to allow displacement.
The Defence Solarri took overall responsibility for the development of the starship, utilising the Khandrii retrofitting facility in orbit of the Jovian moon of Europa to perform the bulk of construction and testing, with the Department Scientia contributing considerable resources in conjuction with Cetagandan temporal physcists.
Name, prefix and registration
The name Scoperta is a translation of Terran Italian, meaning "Discovery" and stands as the first starship named outside of Baroque-Kaeneian and the beginning of a trend towards Terranisation of Kaeneian culture, though somewhat superficially.
The prefix of the Scoperta is a new term following the same previous classification;

The registration of the Scoperta, DSX-1T, follows likewise a classification - The first two letters designate the department of the Aengelistoria Dominica the vessel is registered to, the Defence Solarri in this case. The third letter is not routinely included in registrations and adds a "special status" to the ship in question; being of an experimental nature, in the example of the Scoperta.
The number following the dash signifies the category of starship - in this case an "explorer" type vessel capable of operating for significant periods without logistical or material support. The final letter indicates the role of the vessel in addition to its type; in the case of the Scoperta this indicates "Temporal".
Technology
The Scoperta is the most technically advanced starship available both inside and out of the Armed Forces and the Serene^Union as a whole - employing the most comprehensive and useful additions normally added painstakingly during starship refits from space-frame upwards, ensuring despite the unintended irony, "future proof" to some degree.
Computational systems
Operating a starship, regardless of special form or function, is a task far beyond that of a Kaeneian if said vessel's scope of operation is anything beyond the terribly limited and insignficant; for superluminal starships, it is utterly impossible - in such a situation, the electronic may lend a much needed hand and utilise abilites far outreaching organics to render such a burden weightless.
At the heart of the Scoperta is an Electronic Intelligence charged with the maintainance of shipboard systems and to sate the needs of the crew in data-collection, dissemination and query answering. Boasting an integrated personality matrix the entity is able to calculate variables in such a way as to allow a "Best Guess" probability not previously available to Kaeneian E.I.
A further addition to the Timeship are Variable configuration displays which allow any workstation to mimic the function (providing sufficient security clearance is provided for protected systems) of any other by altering the layout of the data keys and computational graphs (examples shown below)
Augmenting the traditional circuitry medium are neural augmentation matrixes (NAM); organic neurons artificially reared and spliced together to form biological computational nodes and are directly wired into ship's systems to increase processing speed and decision making.
The processing matrixes are located together in any structure which requires a direct computational link to the onboard Electronic Intelligence, and their presence typically signifies the attendance of an engineer should a malfunction develop - NAM's are not user-servicible and must be replaced unless the damage to any one unit is superficial.
Weapon systems
The defensive systems of the Scoperta are essentially identical to that of her sister starships within the Defence Solarri fleets; Plasmatic torpedoes are the standard ship-to-ship ordinance (With gravimetric, Anti-Matter and Concussion warheads available), with phased energy emitters providing beam weapon coverage.
Aengelis pattern hull armour strengthened with further molecular refinement techniques provide a hardy and difficult-to-penetrate exterior which further increases the surviviability of the Scoperta and her charges - It should be noted however, that tactical systems were a secondary consideration and the experimental nature of the Timeship together with feasibility studys confirm she is undergunned for size and weight.
Temporal Drive
The most obvious and sophisticated of shipboard systems aboard the Scoperta, the Temporal Displacement Drive lay at the absolute pinnacle of scientific knowledge within and possibly outwith the Serene^Union - breaching the great universal regulator and allowing a vessel to traverse the space-time continuum at its own free will.
The device has limitations - Temporal focal points can have a margin of error up to and including ten year drift from the inteded point of entry into the normal space-time continuum; the nature of the experimental system meaning jumps which require absolute precision are virtually impossible to perform. Furtherly, the distance travelled by the starship itself physically cannot be more than maximum superluminal velocity - That is to say, the Scoperta must rely on her Verteron Fold Drive as the sole means of faster-than-light travel when not engaged in a Temporal Displacement, as the Displacement can move the starship only through time, not across a galaxy, or the universe.
The Temporal Matrix is not standalone; built directly into the primary M/ARA the two superluminal methods of travel essentially share the same space - This prevents unecessary over-complication of a critically difficult piece of technology to maintain, but makes repairs and improvements exeptionally different.
