The Treaty of Ataleia

Preamble: In the name of the peoples of the Mercurial Empire of Mernidok and the Royal Dominions of Akaeia, who desire peace and stability between the two states, and who both desire foremost to reside within their own states, the following articles have been drawn up by delegates from both parties. Let the adjusted borders bring the security and friendship which both sides desire, and end the dangerous buildup of tensions between them.

Article I: Akaeia concedes the ethnically Mernian lands along the common border and the city of Ataleia to the nation of Mernidok on the following terms. Akaeia renounces all claims on the city of Ataleia and the transferred land, and recognized the legitimate ownership of those areas by the Mernian state.

Article II: Mernidok guarantees the property and safety of Akaeian citizens resident in the transferred lands.

Article III: The new border between Mernidok and Akaeia is to remain open with unimpeded trade, save as is common between different nations, and both will be encouraged to withdraw their frontier garrisons.

Article IV: Akaeia and Mernidok vow non aggression through a commitment not to attack possessions of the other, including merchants of the other nation, nor colonies, provinces, or persons, nor hold goods, persons, or services from the other, without conclusive proof of wrongdoing, presented before action, to the government of the other nation.

Article V: To arbitrate disputes between the two nations, a board of 9 members will be established, with 4 seats going to each nation and the 5fth going to the nation of Sicinia Salis, because of their ties in common with both states.

Article IV: In light of this agreement, and out of a desire to equalize things between both peoples, Mernidok renounces the economic benefits laid forth in Article Two of the Treaty of Unification, save the money payment, which shall not be altered. This includes exclusive rights to Tyrins and reduced  tariff rates.

This day, March 3rd of the year 1729, the following articles are ratified and held as binding over the Akaeian and Mernian peoples, through the agreement of each nation’s leader as shown by signature below. It is the sincere wish of both peoples that this Treaty usher in an era of cooperation, stability, and prosperity thus far unseen.
