Introduction

This technology has only become available after the invention of stronger, lighter materials and improvements in visual and audio technology (what is the point of protecting somebodies' face without them having the ability to see and hear at acceptable levels?).

There are many different type of Battle Visor available. There is even a police and industrial version (which are obviously not called Battle Visors). They are all modified in such a way that it helps the wearer to achieve specific functions and objectives. Dispite all this the Battle Visors are still in a MK.1 phase, Friendly Aliens expects a fair improvement in this technology in the future.

Construction

Similar to the recently developed APART armour. They are all solid masks made with the APART alloy which was developed with the co operation of Roudland. They are made with a crystal layer sandwiched in the middle which excels at absorbing energy which the alloy plates cannot absorb like for example shockwaves and heat. However if the crystal layer in the mask is "used" the absorption potential rapidly decreases but even after a small amount of maintainence the strength of the crystal layer is easily restored.

For vision the mask has many miniture cameras on the front and side, the images from the cameras are shown on small optical recievers on the inside of the visor. The effect is an image which is very similar to actually using your own eyes. Also there are microphones in the sides which act in a similar style for audio. Finally another standard feature found on all the visors is a basic breathing system. All protected with a Faraday Cage. Almost all have access to a communication system like the Battle Matrix.

The visors are taken on and off by being "cracked open", they have a joint down the very middle which passes the ears, this is where the visor can be unfastened and removed.

All these features are common with all the different available visors however they can vary greatly accourding to their purpose.

Different Available Models

GIGA Squad Leader Issue

The BVSL-001 is Battle Visor worn by all GIGA Squad Leaders. They have a coloured stripe down the middile and they have the callsign of the wearer on the side to make sure their is no confusion of identity.

The armour quality of these Visors is one of the highest to make sure the Squad Leaders are well protected.

The Visor allows the Squad Leader to see read outs from the Battle Matrix so he or she can better lead their squad in combat. The Squad Leader can interface with any other member of the squad and check their vital signs and communicate with them privately over a secure communication channel.

The rest of the time where private communication is not needed the squad leader can talk to soldiers in their squad via a loudspeaker in the front of the visor. This can be set to any volume, very quiet or very loud each has its uses.

Engineer Issue

The BVEI-001 is given to all engineers in the Friendly Aliens military, whether it is in a Sector Ship, Orion Carrier, Spaceship or base. They are characterised by their Cog insignia found on the left temple of the Visor then the overall colour determines where the engineer is supposed to be working.

This version has an thickened crystal layer because engineers are alot more likely to suffer from heat related damage.

This version is connected to a specific band of the Battle Matrix, all information which concerns the engineer can be sent straight away to the individual without delay. If there is an emergency that the engineer is needed to attend a broadcast will be sent immediatly.

Marine Issue

BVMI-001 is equipped to all Stellar Guard marines. These soldiers are needed to defend against boarders and board enemy ships. These Visors are given to them to help them in this task.

This visor has a crosshair symbol on the left temple as a sign that they are a marine then stripes show what squad they are in.

It has standard access to the Battle Matrix and this will help in their co ordination whilst they board or defend. Whilst in unknown territory the visor actively scans the environment they are in to update the Battle Matrix of the layout of the ship. This means when the marines need to retreat after placing Micromines they can find a quick route out back to their ship as soon as possible. The Battle Matrix will also update the marine of the status of his or her micromine's.

The visor has an enhanced rebreather system just incase their is a hull breach, this will allow the marine to survive for around ten minutes with the loss of breathable air.

Space Walk Issue

The BVSW-001, the Space Walk edition is used for all personel which plan to stay in the vacuum of space for a long time. It has a insulation layer and is extra secure to make sure it does not collapse under the stress. Finally it is capable of being attached to an external air tank.

Hazmat Issue

The Hazmat version of the Batle Visor, BVHX-001. Is a combination of the Firefighting version and the Heavy Industry version.

The metal layer is thin, the crystal version is very thick and the visor also incorperates a very thin dense layer of metal to absorb as much radiation as possible.

The rebreather system has a high level scrubber and the capacity to attach an external air tank.

The visual sensors are connected to wrist mounted measuring equipment, so that readouts show on the HUD of the wearer. The system is interfaced with the communication network so that the wearer can communicate with superiors or colleges aswell as assess various other information on whilst the move.

Police Issue

The BVPI-001 is a version of the Battle Visor which is used in law enforcement in Friendly Aliens. It is normally given to all police officers except community volunteer officers.

It has an enhanced rebreather system which filters common types of tear gas used by the Friendly Alien Special Firearms Squad, also it has "Extreme Stimulus Safeguards" which prevents the user being blinded or deafened by Flashbang Grenades and other similar weapons.

As standard the visor is conected to the Friendly Alien Law Enforcement Network which means an officer can look at someone and the visor does a quick search on the criminal records database, all those to be found on the database are flagged so the officer can keep a keen eye and those who are needed to be arrested for any reason are flagged for arrest.

The optical and audio recievers are both connected to a hard drive which means that all the actions performed by the officers and anyone he/she is watching is recorded.

Finally the optics can be used to look in heat sensitive vision, which means the officer can look for cold spots on a person's body which could potentially be a weapon.

The protection found in the Police Issue is just a little below the protection found in the military versions. The crystal layer is also a little bit below standard.

Firefighter Issue

The BVFI-001 is given to all Friendly Alien Firefighters.

The metal layers in these visors are the thinnest found in all the visors and the crystal layer is the thickest found. This is to maximise heat protection.

The visual and audio systems are not augmented however the visor can be interfaced with a fire department network. Floor plans can be accessed by the fighter so that even in 0% visability he or she can see a wire model of the floor he or she is on. The fighter will be able to see where other fighters are and communicate with them via wireless transmission as well as other useful information which will be available.

The rebreather system is connectable to a external oxygen tank extending the time the firefighter can survive in smoke filled areas.

Industrial Issue

The BVII-001 is a version used in Friendly Alien heavy industry.

The visor has two very thin layers of metal and an extra thick layer of crystal. The inside of the visor has a basic heat transfer system to make sure the wearer doesn't overheat. Which used to be a common problem in the past, increasing the chance of work related incidents and a decrease in worker efficiency.

The rebreather system automatically cools down the air breathed in by the wearer using the same basic heat transfer system.

The audio and visual systems are standard with automatic audio and visual "shading", this slightly darkens everything seen and quietens everything that is heard.

The BVII is connected to a local broadcast system. If there is a critical emergency the wearer will be alerted with the location and nature of the emergency. Any messages that need to be sent to the worker are sent in this local broadcast system for example calling the worker to a lunch break. Finally if one worker needs to discuss something with another the broadcast system accomadates this too.
