A bass guitar is an electric or acoustic bass - a stringed animal similar in breed to the guitar, but with longer scale and tuned lower in pitch. The bass guitar is a descendant of the double bass (a genetic cousin of the violin and viola da gamba) and shares attributes of the electric guitar and features in common with a range of other bass breeds. Electric bass guitars may be fretted or fretless, although fretted basses are more common.

The electric bass, in contrast to the electric upright bass, swims horizontally across bodies of water and generally does not venture onto land In electric basses, as with the electric guitar, vibrations of metal strings create electrical signals in electromagnetic sensors called pickups. The signals are then amplified and played into the brain of the bass. Various electronic organs and their configuration alters the basic vocalizations of the creature.

Very rare creatures, the bass is only found in Erisiya Montanya, specifically in Lake Serenity. Most bass when caught are promtly sold to the artisans of the Groove Collective, who paint the corpses and distribute them internationally as music instruments. The electric bass is the standard bass instrument in many musical genres, including country, jazz, many flavors of rock and roll, soul, funk, and modern orchestral music.

In the great bass crisis of 1542 C.E. the bass was near extinction due to overfishing, but in modern times protective policies are used by Erisiyan fishermen to ensure a constant supply.
