A Modern World
Forum: none
Population: ~ 25 nations

Background

The region of A Modern World is considered by some of its members as more of a roleplaying community than a region, although home to several non-roleplaying members such as UN delegate Clockworth and UN member MetroCream.

Dra-pol, widely known for roleplaying as North Korea, started A Modern World as an alternative to regular modern-tech nationstates roleplaying. Frustrated over the prospect of waging a massive war over the Korean peninsula with an army of several hundred million troops and being able to loose to much smaller forces. The size of earth and the size and quantity of the nations populating it did not lend themselves to easy interaction. Therefore, along with many of the nations who participated in the War for Korean Unification, Dra-pol simply downscaled to the size of the real North Korea. This led to the other Modern Worlders choosing nations to represent, and eventually the world map was redrawn to take into account this new roleplaying community.

Current situation and events

Recently, the Modern World community has been on a recruitment drive for new players. Some of the more active and proficent of these new Modern Worlders are Elkazor, representing France, Lavrageria, representing Belarus, The British Federation, representing England, Armandian Cheese, representing Russia, and Strathdonia, representing Malawi, among other Sub-Saharan Africa nations like Lusaka. One notable nation is Kaendru, who represented Nepal for a productive yet ultimately abortive period of concentration on that particular nation's sizeable Maoist insurgency, though it has become active again following an invasion by its eastern neighbor, Xiaguo.

All in all, most of europe, Asia, Africa, and North America/the carribbean is currently represented in A Modern World, although South America is wholly devoid of players. The merger with the already-established Sub Saharan Africa community, which existed along the lines of A Modern World before Dra-pol's idea, greatly expanded A Modern World and its represented nations.

There have also been instances of friction between certain Modern Worlders and the two nations representing respective portions of China, Xiaguo and Sino. This could possibly lead to the ejection of China from the Modern World scene, but it is too early to make a final analysis.

Note on the unique status of the Lyong players
The Lyong Peninsula is yet the only fictional land mass recognised within the Modern World. It is included due to the early involvement of its principle occupants in MW-related RPs and the developmental history invested by these nations in both Lyong and the MW. It is the exception rather than the rule. The peninsula extends from mainland Asia into the Sea of Japan between Korea and Honshu.
