Prince Theodor of Altec
|
His Royal Highness Prince Theodor of Altec (Theodor Wilhelm Carl Christian Augustus Rudolf), (31 March, 1898 - 10 June, 1903) was the sixth child and fourth son of King Philipp II, then Duke of Altec and his wife, Lady Elisabeth Bauer. He was born at Schloss Ottosbrun, his parents' primary residence.
Several days after the feast day celebrations for St. Rudolf (May 29), Prince Theodor became critically ill with diphtheria, the same disease which had killed his elder sister, Sophie. Although court doctors worked to save the young prince, their valiant efforts proved in vain. Theodor died on June 10, enduring seven days of suffering. His body was transported to Schloss Hanover, where he was buried in a small plot next to his sister and their two stillborn siblings. A guardian angel stands watch over the graves.
