Near the end of the War of attrition, it was apparent that the F-50, while able to outgun the jets of the Risban and kentuckistan air forces, it was hopelessly outperformed, hadicapped by its weak engine and straight wing. In 1953 a improved and revised redesign of the plane was ordered, and the plane that came out of this was the F-54. The plane featured new avionics, and new, powerful RAMFAN X-1 Engine (An illegialy reproduced version of the VK-1 on the Mig-17), new guns, and new, swept wings. 200 Entered service in 1954, and the remaining 300 F-50's were upgraded to this standard in the following years, bringing the total to 500 planes. In 1964 all F-54's were upgraded to F-54C standard, which featured a new engine, new radar, new targeting system, allowing it to carry air-to-air missiles, new avionics, and had two of its Machine guns removed.

Then plane then saw heavy service in the Willink civil war of 1968, were it was widely used(around 400) by the Communist goverment, which suffered heavy losses. After the Rebel victory, the remaining 320 planes were either scrapped or sold to friendly nations.
