The Mouvement Populaire de la Révolution (or, in English, Popular Movement of the Revolution), is a Zaïrian political party. As Zaïre is a one-party state, no other political parties are permitted. Membership in the Mouvement Populaire de la Révolution (or MPR, for short) is compulsory for all citizens. The party conforms entirely to the ideology of President Mobutu, and often defines its stances on issues in the vaguest terms. Economically, it advocates "the repudiation of both capitalism and communism." It stands for a "truly national revolution, essentially pragmatic," and "authentic Zaïrian nationalism and condemnation of regionalism and tribalism." When asked to which direction it veers politically, it replies: "neither left, nor right, nor even center."
