Emperor Constantine XIV
His Imperial Majesty Emperor Constantine XIV Comnenus was the eldest son of Emperor Constantine XIII and Empress Irene II. He was crowned co-emperor (Caesar) during the lifetime of his father. After his father was murdered in 1588, he became a senior emperor (Caesar Augustus). He married his Empress Consort, Irene Drakos, just a few months before his father's murder.
Constantine was a sickly and strange mannered child. His behaviour had an almost other-worldly quality to it. He was not well-liked in the Imperial Court of Christ Pantocrator, and showed little aptitude for rulership, leaving the administration of Pantocratoria mainly to his mother, the Empress Augusta Irene II Palaeologus and to the co-emperors. Modern analysis of records of the period suggest that he may have had a mild form of autism, but if this was the case, it went undiagnosed by his own doctors. He died at the age of 22, just two years after his father, when his doctors took too much blood in a routine bleeding to clear unwanted humours. In his short life, he had found time, albeit only barely, to father a son, who would succeed him as senior emperor.
