Troll

The term Troll can be used to describe a member of any number of non-human sentient races, many, but not all, of which are generally believed to be in some way intrinsically evil or at least lawless. Different types of trolls vary wildly. Some are gigantic in size while others are tiny, some are evil while others are particularly honourable, some are clever while others are brutish and stupid. Most trolls are longer lived than humans.

The term troll is Norse in origin. It originally referred to any supernatural being. It is similar to the Swedish trolla and the Danish verb trylle which means to perform magic arts. It is unclear how it came to be applied to the particular non-human races it is now applied to and not to others. The various types of troll have no biological relation and few, if any, traits in common.
