The Technical Division for the Repression of Communism (abbreviated TDRC) is an intelligence agency and secret police organ of the Free and Independent State of Minnesota ostensibly created for the purpose of "detecting, locating, and eliminating" Marxists and other "undesirable elements," i.e., anyone who poses either a real or perceived threat to state security. TDRC's history, inner workings, and functions are shrouded behind an almost impenetrable veil of secrecy and known only by a select few. What is known is that the organization: is highly hierarchical; its financing and administration are overseen by the House Un-Minnesotan Activities Committee (HUAC); its members are trained to the highest standard imaginable; and the leadership of the organization is answerable only to the President himself. TDRC is believed to enjoy near-total impunity to resort to whatever tactics it desires or deems necessary to fulfill its duties, and rumors persist among the international community that TDRC operates its own network of prisons and interrogation centers and relies on a vast network of informers. Human rights organizations accuse the organization of torture, extrajudicial executions, etc., but President Latimer derides these accusations as "peanuts." While TDRC is said to conveniently label all its opponents as "communists," there is little doubt that actual communists are persecuted much more severely than non-communist opponents of the regime.

Speculation swirls that outside sources provide equipment and training for TDRC agents; most suspect involvement by Mossad, SAVAK, or SNIP, but none of the parties involved have either affirmed or refuted these accusations, so they remain pure speculation.
