Etymology

Historically, Dalnijrus was referred to in English as 'Far Russia', although this is a slight mis-translation. The correct translation is 'Far Rus'', which describes either the area in the North Pacific inhabited by Slavic migrants or the various states that occupied the area.

Dalnijrus was named "Dalnijrussia" in the days of Imperial Russia, and the Russian tsar was usually styled "Tsar of All the RussiasGreat, Little, White and Far'. This practice continued throughout the Soviet era, with the country taking the official name of the "Dalnijrussian Soviet Socialist Republic".
