Wemfyrra
The Wemfyrra are often referred to as a type of vampire. A Wemfyrra is a human who has become bonded with a symbiont.

Receiving "the gift"
When a human who ingests some of a Wemfyrra's blood, some of the symbiotic micro-organism from the Wemfyrra is transferred into the human. Normally, the human's immune system would destroy the symbiont, but if the human has been weakened (by a Wemfyrra draining their blood), the symbiont will spread throughout their body, turning them into a Wemfyrra.
Characteristics of Wemfyrra
Becoming a Wemfyrra has both advantages and disadvantages.
Aversion to sunlight
The symbiont is damaged by natural sunlight, and Wemfyrra depends on its symbiont for life. Thus, sunlight can kill a Wemfyrra by killing its symbiont.
Aging
Wemfyrra do not age like normal humans. As a Wemfyrra grows older, they grow stronger, faster and tougher.
Drinking blood
Since a Wemfyrra's body is kept healthy by its symbiont, it only needs to feed the symbiont to survive. The symbiont requires blood to live; human blood is preferable, but all mammals provide blood that is nutricious to the symbiont.
