This article deals with Internet Relay Chat as it relates to NationStates. For more general information, see the Wikipedia article on this subject.
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of instant communication over the Internet, popularly used by many members of the NationStates community. It is mainly designed for group (many-to-many) communication in discussion groups called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication.
Most NationStates discussion is on the EsperNet (irc.esper.net, port: 6667) IRC network. There are many channels, but the most common are:
- #NationStates - for general NationStates chat
- #NationStates_General - for NationStates chat specifically for General forum posters
- #NationStates_Politics - for Real Life Political Discussion
- #NationStates_Technical - the IRC equivalent of the Technical Forum
- #UnitedNations - for discussion of UN related matters
- #sport - IC discussion about Nationstates sports, particularly the World Cup series.
- #themodcave - a place to make request for NationStates Moderator intervention, idling is prohibited
- #NSwiki - for discussions of this very place
