History

Acmere was a small market town settled by Anglo-Saxon settlers in the 1st century and remained the same up until the 1300s when the town was identified as the perfect location for the basing of infantry and associated forces and so the first barracks were built close to where the Fuesilier Precinct is situated.

During the civil war the town served as the headquaters for the Unionist army and the town swelled as more and more troops came to the town.

The economy of the area soon developed to service the needs of international dignitaries who would attend the various army events that take place such as the Maanenland International Military Tattoo which takes place four miles away at 'Chiltern Haven'.

The latter half of the 20th century saw a decline in the fortunes of the town despite a large increase in troops numbers problems such as crime and disorder particularly as advancements in local railway made it easier for people to visit the town for entertainment.

In 2006 it was announced that Acmere was to become the capital of the new province the Hart Districts , unlike most other capital cities Acmere has no experiance or history as the centre of a region and as such is planning to construct a new facility in the town centre for the housing of the new government.

Transport and Communications

Acmere has a main railway station at High Campstead with regular links to Harringdon junction for services to the south and west and a direct rail link to Stretford with services every 15 mins.

Unusually for a city of it's size , Acmere has a major international airport which is the primary hub regionally built in 1991 on the former site of the Royal Maanenland Aeronautical Defence Force base RMADS Irwell Forest.

Politics

The parliamentary constituency of Accrington & Bornham has traditionally voted for Maanenland First , the present MHB is Lieutenant Robbie Green.

Sport

Acmere Rovers are the local football team who play in the Southern Stretford Cup. The army based in the city often play their rival cities in the same stadium.
