Alfonzostan

The Capitalist Kingdom of Alfonzostan is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 1.918 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Gambling, and Arms Manufacturing industries.

Streakers swamp all public events in order to bare it all, all guns must be registered, retirement homes are often fitted with luxurious suites, and the government's religious works are headed by a New Age guru. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. Alfonzostan's national animal is the Redtailed Death Hawk, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Moulah.

History

Alfonzostan was founded when H. F. H. (His Financial Holiness) Alfonzo the Great, the first and so far only leader of Alfonzostan, purchased a small island in the Nicobar Archaepelago. From there, he set off to conquer the rest of the surrounding islands, subduing the fearsome primitive tribes and recruiting them into his military. And this was just the beginning, for from there, Alfonzostan conquered Bangladesh and eventually all of the Indian Subcontinent after subduing the Kingdom of Guys with Long Feet in the Northwest.

Government

Alfonzostan is known for its autocratic capitalism, a system in which the Supreme Rajah H. F. H. Alfonzo the Great trades with his honor-bound megacorps to sustain them. These megacorps operate much like feudal estates, employing the rest of society in a variety of professions. For better or worse, Alfonzostan's administration is not broken up on a regional basis, but rather, on the basis of companies, in a manner similar to Mussolini's Italy. In fact, issues like human rights are almost always handled by the megacorps. However, they are honor-bound to yield to any and all of the Supreme Rajah's decrees, and if they fail to do so, the Supreme Rajah may dissolve a megacorp and hand its assets over to another one, or even take control of it himself.

Economy

Alfonzostan's prosperity can easily be linked to its capitalist system, as well as its strict eugenics policy (the mentally retared have no legal right to reproduction, or even to life, for that matter). In fact, the Moulah, Alfonzostan's unit of currency, is worth $1.5 USD.
