Arthur Automotive is an electric car manufacturer based in Hitchin, Havl. Founded by Harry Calhoun in 2004 to produce alternative-energy automobiles, the company became state-owned after a legislation change in 2005. Unlike other automobile manufacturers, Arthur is noted for its lack of model names; the company only produces one type of vehicle at a time. Therefore, each car becomes commonly known as an "Arthur." Since its inception, the company has been involved in international auto racing, especially in the SuperFormula series, where it has enjoyed great success of late.
Road Cars
As noted above, Arthur is somewhat unique in that it produces only one model at a time. Each Arthur model is produced for an average of twelve months before the factory switches to production of the next model. However, some models have been produced for significanly less time, such as the Arthur v4, which was quickly replaced by the Arthur v5 and its updated power plant less than three months after production began. Although models are denoted by version numbers within the factory, they are publicly referred to by the company name.
Racing
</div>Arthur has produced cars for various racing championships, most notably for the SuperFormula series, but also for the Havl Sports Car Championship, as well as the aborted Formula Electric series. Arthur is somewhat unique in the SuperFormula paddock for producing its own chassis and working with an engine partner. Since 2007, Arthur Motorsports has used HAG engines. In 2009, the team begins a technology partnership with VLT Automotive.
