This article deals with Artic Ocean as it relates to NationStates. For more general information, see the Wikipedia article on this subject.

The Artic Ocean is the smallest and shallowest of the Earth's oceans although, given the nature of fractal reality and the number of nations located near the Artic, it is still either very large or rife with fractal phenomena. The Artic Ocean might also be described as a sea or as the northernmost portion of the World Ocean.

Generally, the Artic Ocean is covered by sea ice, although fractal reality sometimes changes this with regard to nations for whom global warming has progressed much further than it has in the baseline reality. The specific temperature as well as the salinity of the Artic vary seasonablly as ice melts and freezes. About 50% of the ice melts each summer and, as global warming progresses, slightly less refreezes each winter.
