System of Government

The Augmented government is, at heart, exactly what its name says: a technocracy. Citizens are selected for jobs and positions based solely on talent and aptitude, which is determined via a highly complex simulation program. For example, if a citizen shows a aptitude for small-scale tactical planning, he (or she) would be offered the job of a squad commander. The test can be re-taken at any time, and all jobs are voluntary; a talented individual can still retain their job as a ground-based "grunt" if they wish.

The "military" portion of the title descends from the Augmented's history as a mercenary force. Loyalty to the nation is an important component of Augmented doctrine, and citizens are each assigned a military rank which determines the level of authority which they can be trusted with. The Augmented system of government is modeled after military command tree, with Leaders and Fleetminds at the top, and Grunts and Restricted Intelligences (RIs) at the bottom. Each role in the Augmented command structure has a minimum loyalty rank associated with it. For example, to be a cruiser pilot one must posess a loyalty rank of Sergeant Third Class or above.
