Beldani Combine

The Beldani Combine (Beldani: beldan rahan shashaar) is an intergalactic nation that neighbours the Great Star Empire of Allech-Atreus.

Government

The Beldani Combine is a confederacy of independent planets, systems, and regions, all ruled by a mixture of democratic systems, powerful despotic warlords, and communistic administrations. Encompassing all systems that identify as ethnic Beldani or speak the national Beldani language, the central government is a weak assembly that serves as more of an interstellar court than a government with any real power.

Each individual component of the Combine, whether it is a single independent planet, or a group of systems under the military control of a warlord, sends a representative to the designated capital, currently the planet of Wishrinattar. These representatives sit in congress and debate issues relating to trade, war, and other matters, sometimes bringing suits on behalf of their government.

War and Military

There is no national military, and invidual municipalities are responsible for their own safety. It is common to find powerful warlords in control of many systems, or powerful mercenary despots who barter tribute for troops. There are several democratic alliances, and a few communist enclaves in the Combine.

Society

Not much is known about Beldani society, the most literature coming from sources in Allech-Atreus. The national language is Beldani, and the majority of the people identify as being ethnically Beldani.

History

Beldan began as a conglomerate of various warlords vying for control over start systems, before the congealing of any Imperial systems. Ancient records state that when the ancient Shaddati, the forerunners to the Gishan Empire, were young, the Beldani warlords were fighting and building their civilizations. At one point, the warlord Bir-Am-Bel controlled parts of what is now the Empire of Allech-Atreus, and it is likely that other warlords held power over other Imperial planets.

Contact with the Beldani was sporadic, and trade has only recently intensified. The current Combine only formed around 10,000 years before the current date, while the Empire has been in existence for 30,000 years and the multiverse known to have been populated for at least 60,000.
