Brian Blatherstock was born in North Holden, Buckinghamshire, and attended Hornby College, before going to RMC Sandhurst. He served in: British Army Royal East Kent Regiment 1893-1904 served, South Africa 1879, Chitral, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, South Africa 1900-02 reaching rank of of Major
British-Indian Army 39th Garhwal Rifles 1904-1919, served in Punjab Frontier, Bassée 1914, Armentières 1914, Festubert 1914 '15, Neuve Chapelle, Aubers, France and Flanders 1914-15, Egypt 1915-16, Khan Baghdadi, Sharqat, Mesopotamia 1917-18, Macedonia 1918 reaching rank of Major;
British-Cobdenian Army South New Sussex Regiment 1919-1922, reaching rank of Lt-Colonel;
British-Cobdenian/Cobdenian Army General Staff of the War Department 1922-1930 reaching current rank of Major-General;
Retired 1930 following balloon accident, making him "Possibly the stupidest man ever to wear a uniform" according to the late Governor-General
He believes, since the accident, that he has served in the following: North West Frontier, Flanders, Mafeking, Omdurman, Isandlwhana, Balaclava, Waterloo, Salamanca, Bunker Hill, Naseby, Bosworth Field, Agincourt and Hastings, although most prior to Omdurman are untrue and a result of his unstable mind. He also died and was resurrected, all this has never been explained.
Family
His family situation is considered complicated as, when he was 23, he married a 38 year old widow, Jane Baulton (nee Trescothick) who had a 20 year old daughter. His father subsequently married the widow's daughter. This caused his father to be his son-in-law, and his daughter his mother. He subsequently had a son by his wife, which became his father's brother in law and thus his uncle, and brother to his daughter, as she was also his step mother. His step daughter had a daughter by his father, and became his grandson, and his brother. This means that his late wife was his grandmother, he her grandson, and thus he is his own grandson. This, along with his balloon accident, might account for his borderline insanity.
