Format

Regular Season

The format of the competition takes place over a twenty-four (24) game regular season, followed by four playoff rounds to determine a champion. The regular season schedule is formed using the previous season's results.

  • Each team plays each team from their own division home and away.
  • Each team plays a home game against each team from another division.
  • Each team plays an away game against each team from a third division.
  • Each team plays the team who had the same position as them in the divisional table from the last remaining division home and away.

For Example:

  • In one season, the Appleby Lions will play the rest of the teams in the Northern Division twice. Then the team might play a home game against each of the teams from the Western Division and an away game against each of the teams in the Southern Division. If the Lions finished 3rd in last year's championship, the team would then play the team who finished in third place in last year's Eastern Division standings.
  • In the same season, the Winton Wolves will play the rest of the Western Division teams twice. They will also play all the Northern Division teams away and all of the Eastern division teams at home. If the Wolves then finished 5th in the previous year's divisional standings, they would play the 5th place team from the Southern Division home and away.

Postseason

After the regular season, the top three teams from each division are sorted according to their regular season records and seeded based on those rankings. In the first round, the bottom eight teams will play each other at the higher-ranking team's field, with 5 playing 12, 6 playing 11, 7 playing 10, and 8 playing 9. The next week, the winners of these four matches will each play one of the top four seeded teams in a single elimination tournement. After each round, the matchups will be re-seeded so the highest-ranked team remaining will always play the lowest-ranked team, and so on with all the remaining teams.

Final

The League Final takes between the two teams remaining in the playoffs. Unlike the rest of the playoff games which take place at the stadium of the higher ranked team, the final always takes place at a neutral location decided upon before the start of the season.
