Celestar is a Kelssekian company specialising in the manufacture of transportation equipment, including business jets, passenger aircraft, rail transportation equipment and recreational equipment. The majority shareholding is held by the Celestar Employees Association, and the workers therefore have a direct hand in the direction of the company and benefit substantially from the profit generated by it. While it is technically a private enterprise, employee ownership allows it to claim sovietised corporation status, entitling the company to significant tax advantages. The company is headquartered in Outineau. It is Kelssek's largest manufacturing sector employer.

History

The Celestar Aircraft Company began as a state enterprise in 1953, established by Kieran Pearson's government in a bid to promote the development of the manufacturing industry, increase value in the primary-industry-driven economy, and to provide employment. Initially manufacturing aircraft parts, a group of engineers soon designed a small regional jet designed to carry 50 passengers on short-distance flights. The revenue from the successful Celestar Regional Jet or CRJ helped to power a massive expansion into larger aircraft and business jets.

Acquisitions

The official name was shortened to simply Celestar in 1977 with the acquisitions and mergers of several companies. Its core aircraft manufacturing became the Celestar Aerospace division, while Outineau Locomotive Works and Rorhsaille-Benevé were merged into Celestar and formed a new Celestar Transportation division, manufacturing railway cars and locomotives for rail and mass transit systems. Celestar also purchased the Frontière Snowmobile Company in 1980; Celestar continues to manufacture snowmobiles under the Frontière brand.
