The Civilian Defense Force, commonly known simply as CDF (not to be confused with the Community Defence Forces of the now-deceased nation Sober Thought), are a paramilitary organization that was created during the Second Great War by the US government as a response to the soviet invasion of North America.

Originally, the CDF would run under the guise of civil defense efforts to misguide the Soviets about the true military threat of the organization.

CDF members where enlisted in a hurry, and given out-dated weaponry. Commonly, M1 carbines left over from the first Great War were handed to the combatants. Their poor armament and training made them inferior to regular GIs, who at that time used M60 machine guns and man-portable rocket launchers, but they still were a match for the soviet conscripts, which where armed and trained in a similar fashion.

The huge amount of volunteers to draw from and the cheap equipment made CDF riflemen much cheaper units to field than regular GIs, leading to an increase in the use of these combatants even at the regular frontline.
