The Confederation for Socialism is a indepedent political pressure group who also run as a small political faction within the Social-Democrats, a political party in Niploma.

History

Begun in 1854 as an illegal political organisation the Confederation for Socialism adhered to Marxism as dictated in the Communist Manifesto. For almost eighty years, together with the Worker's Board of Representation, they spawned debates, political activism and strikes so to push foward the 'labour movement'. Indeed, together with the Worker's Board, the Confederation for Socialism allowed the civil war to go ahead and by supporting the Socialist Resistance they were a large reason why the Socialist's gained support and won.

From 1936 to 1956 the Confederation greatly helped the Provisional Government by gathering support and introducing populist policies to win over the public. When the democratic election was called the Confederation for Socialism signed an electoral agreement with the Social-Democrats (who were then the Socialist Internationalist Party) that theConfederation would become a faction within the Social-Democrats. Although they lost all independence for politics they were still allowed complete independence in their non-party activities therefore allowing them to be an independent pressure group.

Today

Today the Confederation has thirty-eight Deputies who are absorbed within the Social-Democratic grouping in the Democratic House. This grouping, which tends to stay similiar in number, has been important in Niplomian politics for ensuring the Government still retains a socialist link.

However, the Social-Democrats have swept furter towards centrist politics which has caused a stir within the Confederation. Currently some members of the Confederation have considered moving to support the socialist Niplomian Labour Party.

Membership

Members and Funds

The party claims to have over ten million supporters (that is those who have joined the group) although many of these are likely to be members of the Social-Democrats too. The group has fifty million pfunds generated per annum. This is divided into small independent activity, administration and funding for the Social-Democrats/ supporting endorsed candidates who run as part of the electoral agreement.

Confederation Head Council for Socialism

A Head Council of thirty-five controls the organisation.
