The Continental Guard (or simply "The Guard") composes all of the armed forces of Unkerlantum, which are broken down into the Army and the Navy. During peacetime the standing army consists of only career soldiers with service(wo)men as reserves, putting its total strength around one million. However, at the 2007 regional conference, the High Council passed the Militia Act, a plan to lower the standing army to no more than 300,000 career soldiers during peacetime. In case of invasion, both service(wo)men and drafted citizens may be called up, creating the potential for 3% or more of the total Unker population to be used in defense.
