The Cornith Caves was discovered by a local child playing in the outskirts of the city of [[Cornith]] in 1912. Early expeditions through the cave mapped only a few miles of the system, and they also found that the cave system is lined in quartz crystals. In fact, the original name for the cave was "Crystal Cave". Today, the Cornith Caves are thought to be much bigger than the current consensus of 103 miles. The caves are now protected by the [[Ethan Smith National Park Service]] (ESNPS) and is on the [[World Heritage Sites & Treasures List]].
