DEFCON (Antigran Definition)

The First DEFCON

The 'DEFCON' measurement of armed forces readiness was first used by the United States and has since being adopted by many NS nations, Antigr included.

The US's definition of DEFCON means, flatly, Defence Readiness Condition, or what alert and readiness level the armed forces are at. (See Wikipedia:DEFCON)

The Antigran Definition

The Antigran DEFCON means the same as the US DEFCON, and has five regular levels and an emergency level.

These are listed here:

DEFCON 5 - LOW

This level is not often used and indicates the very lowest level of armed forces readiness short of letting everyone have 70 years' leave. It is not often used because having a low level of armed forces readiness is very dangerous and makes Antigr vunerable

DEFCON 4 - STANDARD

This is the standard level. It signifies that armed forces are alert to some degree but remain calm. Although this is the common level, it has not been used recently due to a number of unaviodable conflicts

DEFCON 3 - MEDIUM

A medium level of readiness is, of course, slightly higher than level 4, usually used in low-status defence operations or minor conflicts. This is what the Antigran DEFCON level has been for the past three and a half months, apart from a brief rise to level 2 shortly after the start of the Second Dephirian Civil Conflict

DEFCON 2 - HIGH

This is used in times of high-status conflicts and defence movements and allows for the use of high-impact weapons such as atomic bombs, but to a very slim scale. This has been raised only three times in the entire history of Antigr and was recently used in the Second Dephirian Civil Conflict mentioned above

DEFCON 1 - VERY HIGH

This measure is only put in place in very urgent situations such as a huge assault into Antigr itself or other very serious matters. Used only once, Danteri. This level permits medium-level usage of NBC weapons.

DEFCON 0 - EXTREME DANGER

This ultimate DEFCON level is the emergency DEFCON, used only in defensive actions to an utterly enormous scale, to which full usage of NBC weapons is allowed, and every defence weapon in Antigr is readied. Urgent civilian defence and protection measures are put into place, and such is the huge amounts of conflict required to activate this level it is hoped by all sane people that it will never be activated
