The Resurgent Dream has no completely indigenous form of music. Even the Aboriginal Danaans used musical forms imported from the Pacific. However, Danaans have a strong tradition of musical accomplishment within existing traditions.

A great deal of Danaan music is influenced largely by the tradition of North and South America, where African, European, and indigenous influences mixed to create a unique cultural tradition. From this tradition, jazz, blues, country, rock and roll, hip hop, and gospel are all popular in the Resurgent Dream.

Classical music, a form learned from Europe between 1740 and 1830, is also popular among the upper classes and almost every major Danaan city has a classical orchestra.

Celtic music is also very popular in the Resurgent Dream. Many Celtic bands perform in Irish, Scots Gaelic, and Welsh, although most match English words to a Celtic style. One of the most popular forms of Celtic music is the Welsh Cerdd Dant, consisting of vocal improvisation over a given melody.

The Resurgent Dream consists of twenty-five principalities spread over an ocean and two continents. Every principality, most major cities, and even many smaller towns have local music scenes, each with its own distinctive musical flavor.

Characteristics

The music of the Resurgent Dream is, on the whole, characterized by a balance between the use of syncopation and asymmetrical rhythms on the one hand and the use of more traditional harmonics on the other. Some of the most distinct trends in Danaan music derive from the juxtaposition of African and Celtic musical traditions.

The relationship between Danaan music and the music of Europe and the Americas. In general, European elements in music are more popular among European-Danaans, inhabitants of rural areas, older people, soldiers, and aristocrats while American elements are more popular in urban areas, among African-Danaans, among the middle classes, and among youth.

Many theorists maintain that Danaan music at its best represents Danaan culture by mixing elements from the music of all the different national heritage groups from which the people of the Resurgent Dream originated. Instead of preferring one element over another, they actively embrace the eclecticism of Danaan music as the distinctive element in Danaan music.
