The Chrysalis is a type of smbiote augment developed by Doctor Kerr and Doctor Hasegawa, renegade scientist from Aurono. Since the nation of Aurono tends to "Human Supremacist" viewpoint, they had to leave Aurono and conducted their experiments in Kotaka instead. It involves extracting cells from an individual and subjecting them to a hyper-evolutionary process by unknown means, but propably involving genetic modification and augmentation. The cells are then grown into a cell cluster, which is reimplanted into the host body. The cells have very aggressive characteristica and will slowly devour the host's natural system to replace them. The symbiote has extreme adaption and regeneration capabilites, so that any damage done to the host body will actually result in the Chrysalis replacing and reinforcing the damaged systems. The Chrysalis symbiote seems to be more powerful if created from juvenile cells, since Mai and Muro, which had their symbiotes implanted at very young ages, are much more powerful than Barabas and Mukade, who were later implanted with replicates by the Syndicate. However, it could just as likely be that Mukade and Barabas did not have their Chrysalises long enough to evolve to the same level as Muro and May. The name "Chrysalis" is derived from the word for the final stage of an insect's metamorphosis, which correlates to the description of it being the final step in mankind's evolution. However, the genetic pool of the Chrysalis does not seem to have been streamlined, since both Muro and Barabas can be seen growing horns from their heads and various other unnecessary body features. Mai, on the other hand, remains umutated. Doctor Kerr said that the final form the host assumes is influenced by his or her nature, thus this must not necessarily mean the presence of absence of any genetic features. It has been suggested to use cryogenic freezing to contain a symbiote, should it become necessary, without killing him (perhaps to do further research). Any attempt to remove the symbiote from the host body using surgery is deemed to fail, because the Chrysalis can adapt to the attempts of removing it and regenerate. The regeneration process can be overloaded by causing massive damage, but since the host body is more susceptible to any damage, it will die in the process.
