Defence Solarri

Overview

The Defence Solarri is a department of The Aengelistoria Dominica, the supreme legislative facet of the Serene^Union of Kaenei, and and one of two departments which form the Armed Forces. Charged with the defence of the Union and its extra-world colonies, the Defence Solarri has a wider remit to tackle any percieved dangers to Kaenei and her people.

The Armed Forces of Kaenei are split into two seperate facets; The Defence Solarri as detailed here, and the Defence Terra. The latter, detailed elsewhere, encompasses any and all sub-orbital equipment, facilities, men-at-arms and vessels -- They are the ground arm and it is their remit to tackle any self-defence issue upon Earth, or her skies. The Defence Solarri meanwhile is in supreme authority over the entire star-based fleet, its facilities and crews.

Functioning as an interstellar navy of sorts, the Defence Solarri is expressively forbidden from deploying or maintaining standing men-at-arms (with the exception of limited special forces), and instead must rely and co-operate with the Defence Terra on operations requiring both orbital, and surface conflict.

Such a seemingly odd arrangement is markedly different from the traditionally logical approach of Kaeneian organisation, but is vitally important. Before Earth Ascension, the great displacement from Solarri and the fall of the Caelistis Gens Empire (The Forerunner to the Serene^Union, of sorts) was indirectly caused by a single and integrated Armed Force with any and all equipment within reach. To combat any hope of a lightning-fast insurrection in an age of faster-than-light travel and planet-cleansing weapons, Kaeneian Armed Forces are seperated to ensure any rebellion no matter how unlikely, would take precious weeks to organise and fulfil.

Organisation

The Defence Solarri encompasses five space-borne combat fleets, spread between the Serene^Union's various territories throughout Sol. In addition, orbital facilities also fall under its juristiction , often administered in conjuction with the Department Scientia.

Each of the five combat fleets is named after a city of the Serene^Union, with the capital and first fleet, Solarri, being given the priviledged status of "Veteran" on account of their number being composed of starships many centuries old and in some cases vessels which originally made the trip across the galaxy to Earth.

Prefix explanation

The registration and prefixes of vessels belonging to the Defence Solarri are explained with this example;

K.D.V or "Kaeneian Defence Vessel" denotes the military status of the starship, as opposed to civilian or medical use. The next two letters highlight the department that has responsibility for the starship, in this example the DS stands for "Defence Solarri". The third letter in the first sequence denotes the weight class of the vessel which in the example again above, is C for Capital ship.

The two numbers following the dash are the construction record, and indicate when checked within the relevant databse, the age of the vessel. The final letter denotes the precise function of the starship, where B in this case means "Battlecruiser".
