Introduction

A pair of Digi-Sylph

Friendly Aliens has always frowned upon the development of AI systems which are potentially large enough to cause a threat if they became "enlightened". Even in the Ancient culture of Friendly Aliens and the Alpha Empire they never used "Smart-AI" because of the great "Metal Scourge" which actually plagued the beginning of the Alpha Empire during its infancy. The development of contained "Dumb-AI" like for example in computer games and weapons however has always been thought of as very useful.

Friendly Aliens wished to create a system which took advantage of the capabilities of an Artificial Intelligence but without the risk.

This produced the idea of the Digi-Sylphs.

Digi-Sylphs

Digi-Sylphs are named because they have no physical elements contain within them, they are pure software. These Digi-Sylphs are small intelligent AI programs which have been created with different personalities and objectives they need to perform. At the moment the Digi-Sylphs have been contained in a computer environment of their own, with no connection to the outside world called the DSNexus. They have been created to do tasks that normal AI perform however each Digi-Sylph has been given a speciality, Thus to perform a task the Digi-Sylph have to work together in at least groups of ten for the most easy tasks.

The idea behind this is to create a free thinking intelligent computer system however without the risk of it turning on the user. Making the Digi-Sylphs dependant on each other and working as a community makes them much less likely to turn individually and if they do the others can deal with the wrong doers without any problems with a computer version of reformation.

In the contained computer environment they stay in now initially only 20 Digi-Sylph were programmed in, all created by separate programmers, made with separate personalities, however now there are about 80, which is the population limit for the DSNexus. The Digi-Sylphs are able to combine with one another, share their programming and create "children" with a random combination of the two parent's coding. Meaning no matter how many "children" are made each Digi-Slyph is different.
