Equalitonia

Founding

In 1987, a group of renegade UN delegates planted a bomb in the UNHQ. It was soon found, but defusing proved impossible. After an emergency evacuation of the building, the Delegates were stripped of their citizenship and ordered to renounce their citizenship.

All of which has nothing to do with Equalitonia's founding. The real truth is that an ancient society, long safeguarded from the perils of humanity, made contact with the outside world and became a nation. Incredibly, the inhabitants of this land had developed at exactly the same rate as mankind, and had all the same technology, as well as a democracy. The only difference was that this race was a utopian society. They quickly learned how to pretend they had nukes, and took a fair amount of land for themselves. They then named themselves Equalitonians.

Customs

Equalitonia has a curious custom, which occurs every New Year's Eve. All citizens wander blindly around the streets, moaning "never again, never again...". According to officals, this is to discourage binge drinking that night. As the work attendance record for New Year's Day is always high, it is assumed that this works.

History

In 1946, a coup d'etat managed to secure control of the Equalitonian government, and renamed it Tyrannatia. This new government was quickly defeated, as an angry mob voted with their fists.
