Farah Suren Pahlav (1955-1996) was the Shahbanu (شهبانو in Persian), or "Queen of Queens" of the Shahdom of Parthia, the wife of Shah Khosru III, and the mother of his children. Tragically, she fell to an assassin's bullet in 1996. In the aftermath of her death, which hit the nation and its people hard, the Shah ordered a massive crackdown, and SAVAK subsequently arrested tens of thousands of real and perceived leftists (the assassin was widely believed to be a member of the illegal, underground Tudeh, or Iranian Communist Party). Now a widower, the Shah has never remarried, although he now keeps a harem of 365 concubines.
