Fortress America

Fortress America (FA) is a small region populated by a diverse group of nations. This region attempts to reflect the diversity of ideas present in the United States. Therefore, Fortress America is comprised of all types of nations ranging from "Right Wing Utopias" to "Democratic Socialists."

History

The region of Fortress America was founded on March 20, 2005 by Almighty America. Along with Almighty America was an original core of nations that migrated from the region Noble Order of Eminence, which was founded by Old Imperial Phoenicia. This core consisted of the following member nations: The Souless Damned, Ubu-Rex, Dai Namred, Habsburg Liechtenstein, and 7 other nations which no longer exist. The five remaining nations are still members of the region. Fortress America has seen fluctuations in membership reaching as many as 35 nations in the latter part of 2006, but has seen a recent reduction in that number.

On January 7, 2007, at the behest of certain member nations, Almighty America convened a constitutional convention. This convention included three (3) of the original nations and four (4) more recent member nations (New South Winchester, Spliffia, The Trainstation, and Zythoria). However, this convention proved unable to produce a document and, while technically still in session, by the end of May 2007 it was essentially dissolved.

Government

Fortress America has implemented two regional governments in the past. Both were comprised of a President and a Prime Minister and are now defunct (these governments have been referred to, in jest, as "French Republics"). Fortress America's most recent attempt to construct a constitution failed to produce a document, leaving the region without any real central governing apparatus. This being the case, Fortress America currently operates as a confederation.

UN Delegate

Though regional government in Fortress America has, historically, witnessed some instability, the position of UN delegate has maintained its importance. The following is a list of all UN delegates since the founding of Fortress America (dates of service are in parenthesis, when available, approximate dates are in italics :

   • Fortress America's first UN delegate.
   • This nation's tenure as delegate was cut short when it "ceased to exist."

   • Served as delegate temporarily after Westside Connect Gang's demise.

    • Service as delegate was interrupted for a short period while endorsements were sorted out. During this time The Trainstation served a short period as UN delegate by . Once endorsements were settled The Souless Damned resumed his position as delegate until he left the region on 24Oct2007

Politics

Politics in Fortress America is of the grassroots type. No political parties currently exist. Therefore, candidates attempt to appeal to each individual voter rather than to a particular party's constituency. This has led to varying numbers of candidates from one election to the next. Additionally, voting is restricted to states that are members of the United Nations (UN). This policy has been instituted in order to check the power of puppet states since it is very difficult for a puppet state to maintain UN membership concomitantly with its master state.
