Friesland (Fryslân in Frisian; is the official name, which is also used in official Dutch publications) is a province in the north of Knootoss. Its capital city is Leeuwarden (Ljouwert). Friesland is mainly an agrarian province. Tourism, mainly on the lakes and near the sea north of the Wadden Polder, is an important source of income.

The province is also famous for its speed skaters, and also for the Elfstedentocht (Eleven cities tour), an ice skating tour of 200 kilometers.
