Geography

Gensei is a large planet on the outer rim of the NS galaxy. The planet has three continents, Kimtou, Sitou and Yutou. Gensei is a very young planet with many active volcanoes and faultlines. All three continents have a wide variety of climates and landforms.

Kimtou is the largest continent, stretching from close to the North Pole to far below the equator. Sitou is the second largest, about three quarters the size of Kimtou stretching from the southern ice caps to just above the equator. The smallest, Yutou straddles the equator and is about one half the size of Sitou.

As the planet was settled within the last decade, there are only two nations on the planet, Kimtou (on the continent of the same name) and Sikuk (on Sitou). Yutou is almost completely uninhabited.

Animal/plant life

All animal and plant life on Gensei is genetically engineered by Kimtou scientists. Not a single plant or animal that lives on the planet had ever existed anywhere else. All plant and animal life is engineered so that they are not able to reproduce on other planets, since they require Gensei soil, or are an animal that must eat a certain plant that requires Gensei soil, or are a predator that must eat a certain prey that must eat a plant that requires Gensei soil. They are perfectly able to live off the planet, although without a certain combination of chemicals, their reproductive organs will not function. This protects Gensei's growing pet animal industry. One of the more famous animals of the planet is the Kimtou Akma (Kimtou Devil), a modified Tasmanian Devil, adapted for many different climates, live over 20 years and with better intelligence and temperament. It has been domesticated, although it also lives in the wild. They are popular pets all over the galaxy. Another animal that gains popularity as a pet is the Shun (Gensei Falcon).

History

The star Gensei was discovered by amateur Polish astronomer Paweł Frańczyk and named “Gwiazda Źródła” (Fountainhead Star) after his favourite novel. Several years later, an organisation of professionals and businessmen from Atlasia, dissatisfied with the socialist dictatorship, created one of the first specifically engineered “Brain Drains” in the universe and moved to the planet, which they named “Gensei” (Gen, from source, Sei from Star). Businesswoman Asako Ohkabu led the great “Daechidat” (Great Mind Escape) from Atlasia and sent out calls to “Chijin” (mind people) in socialist and fascist nations across the universe to come to Gensei, where they would be free to work and keep the fruits of their labour. They landed on Kimtou. At almost the exact same time as the Chijin came to Gensei (maybe only days after), a group of colonists from Europe landed on the second-largest continent, Sikuk. Realising they had the same right to claim the planet, they signed a treaty dividing up the planet.

Kimtou-Sikuk relations

After the founding of both nations, they drew up borders giving the Europeans the continent of Sitou, while the Chijin keep Kimtou. The two nations both use "Gengo" as the official language. In Kimtou it is spoken exclusively, while in Sikuk it is used officially, but the colonists use their native European tongues at home. For a short time, they had a common currency, the gold-backed kimkouka but the new government in Sikuk has recently severed the connection between the kimkoukas and now prints a fiat currency. The two nations remain friendly. Kimtou remains true to Laissez-faire capitalism, while Sikuk is pursuing social democratic policies.
