Players new to the game, and/or the concept of roleplaying sometimes have difficulty in getting themselves established in that field, that is, outside of the roleplaying context. The involvment of a player of Nationstates in roleplay, generally occurs on specified sections of the Nationstates forums, and several guidelines can be followed, to help if one is lost:

First of all when commencing in roleplaying, one should formulate the characteristics that define one's nation. What will make it unique in regards to government, the sentiment and culture of its people, etc? Of course remaining realistic in all. Furthermore, when expressing these characteristics, and in roleplaying in the main, buffering it with descriptive writing, more often than not will render it more alluring.

In respect to the flow of time in the roleplaying world, commonly, one day in reality is used as the equivalent of one year in Nationstates. However, when nations war, or conficts are in effect, the flow of time is substantially retarded, by typical conventions, so as to facilitate and render more realistic the roleplay in question.
