Gilgalar was scared horribly as a youth and doctors tried to repair his face but the surgery turned out worse than what he was in the first place. So now the grand duke wears a mask to cover his horribly scared face. Shunned for his ugliness by his mother he tried desperately to impress his father who was but disappointed that his eldest son would never marry the empress because of his hideous face. He joined the army and now is the Warden of Imladris and protector of the Holy City. However, his sister Tinuviel has now shunned her own parents for shunning their son. Gilgalar and Tinuviel are very close and want to bring down the influence of their father over the monarchy.
