Categories of Government Styles are available when a player creates a nation. These do influence UN categories and the initial settings for the descriptors of Civil Rights, Economy, and Political Freedoms. However, they do not directly impact the nation's description.

Based on an initial assessment by me in May 2007:

Government Style - UN category - descriptors

  • Sensible - no change - no change
  • Liberal - no change - enhances Civil Rights
  • Conservative - decreases personal freedom and increases political freedom - suppresses Civil Rights
  • Compassionate - decreases personal freedom and increases political freedom - suppresses Civil Rights
  • Oppressive - decreases personal freedom - suppresses Civil Rights
  • Corrupt - decreases personal freedom - suppresses Civil Rights
  • Libertarian - increases political freedom - enhances Civil Rights
  • Anarchic - increases personal and political freedoms - greatly enhances Civil Rights and Political Freedoms
  • Evil - decreases personal freedom - suppresses all descriptors
  • Psychotic - no change - no change
