Great Britain and Ireland is a democratic British region. It has a Parliament of 10 MPs, of whom five form a Cabinet. The MPs legislate while the Cabinet takes the executive decisions. The founder, --Great Britain--, is the monarch, and, as in real life, must assent to any bill passed by Parliament before it is added to the statute book. The governmental forums are remarkably open to view, and most nations can involve themselves in some way with the running of the region.

The region was once a member of the Allied British Isles, and is now a protectorate region of the Union of Sovereigns.

Great Britain and Ireland is a controversial region. It claims to be neither an invader nor a defender region, and that its attempted takeovers of Hong Kong and Barbados, and its actual takeover of Palestine, are essentially attempts to create a strong network of regions that are free and equal. Its creation of a forum for the Palestinians and the express support of some of the Palestinians natives back up this claim.

Its critics claim that it is essentially a raider region and doubt its sincerity in some of its claims.

Great Britain and Ireland was recently forced out of Palestine after over a month in occupation by a coalition led by the RLA and the USK (GB&I's erstwhile ally in ABI), and helped by a large contingent from the ADN and other defender groups. It is unclear whether the natives invited this, or whether the groups acted unilaterally as part of their wider objective to remove foreign control from any region. The battle was one of the largest seen in NationStates for some time. The defenders managed to garner a huge 102 endorsements while GB&I managed to gather 84 endorsements from the Union of Sovereigns and some of its allies in ABI.

The consequences of this event have seen the mass ejection of alleged spies from GB&I. These have been the only the second batch of ejections ever carried out in GB&I, after a group of puppets were evicted earlier in the month, who apparently arrived in GB&I after causing trouble in another region, The British Empire.

GB&I's internal future is in no doubt. What remains to be seen is how the region will now forge relationships with other regions. Defenders are working hard to have the region classed as an invader region. The region claims that this is a facile simplification by those that can only see the NS world in black and white.
