Hampton’s Rules of Etiquette (Third Edition; published IanCorp Print Media, Ianapalis) by D.L. Hampton is the book which governs all formal Iansislean social affairs. It is generally considered a bible by the older members of society and a strict, outdated tyrant by the younger. An example, from the chapter on dances and dancing:
“[The waltz] can be easily defined as a most vulgar and common Measure to gain some worldly pleasure, originating as it did with the peasants of Austria ... during this Dance, one grabs his Partner and clutches them as tightly as possible to his Breast, then sets about across the floor at Quick Pace and twirling about in such a Rapid and Sickening manner that it cannot but make any Proper Lady faint.”
Hampton’s has been slowly falling out of favor with the court ever since HRM King James I, best described as a scandalous liberal, ascended to the throne. The reactionary old-guard in Iansisle, however, is loath to let it go.
