The Imperial Coalition is an alliance of colonial semi-autonomous nations all subordinate to the Supreme Imperium of Reformentia, from which they were founded. The Supreme Imperium, upon its population having expanded to the point where it felt it could support accelerated expansion (approximately 800 million), embarked on an extended program of successive colonization to establish satellite nations with several objectives in mind, including:
1. To expand the geographic and political sphere of influence of the Supreme Imperium.
2. To build a strategic defense in depth against possible acts of aggression directed at the Imperium proper.
With these goals in mind the Boreal Protectorate, the first colony founded by the program, was established in the north of the Crowbar Gulf to safeguard the northern border regions of the Imperium (Long since relocated along with Reformentia and the rest of the Core Colonies in the Great Migration to Aarmania). It is the oldest and most powerful of the Reformentian colonies. It is formally considered to be the Northern Shield of the Imperium, a status enshrined in its national motto: “Aquilonius Ancile”.
The next stage of colonization occurred once the Supreme Imperium had added another 100 million to its population. At that time the Dextral and Sinistral Protectorates were simultaneously colonized to the east and west of the Supreme Imperium respectively. Shortly afterwards the Nether Protectorate was established to the south, completing the formation of what are now referred to as the Imperial Core Colonies. From there the colonization continued, further extending the reach of the Imperium which now has a presence throughout the Solar System. The Imperial Coalition is currently comprised of:

-Undisclosed miscellaneous nations – Although not strictly speaking a secret, the Imperium considers it in its best interests not to openly advertise the affiliations of some nations for both political and strategic reasons.
The nations covered by the undisclosed category vary in nature, but the Imperial Core Colonies, Imperial Extra-Planetary Central Command, and all other Imperial colonial protectorates share certain fundamental characteristics.
First, they are all semi-autonomous colonial holdings. Their colonial governments have full discretionary control over domestic policy issues; however, in matters of international affairs and defense the colonial ruling councils serve as proxies of the Reformentian Supreme Governing Council and are subject to Reformentian foreign policy rulings. Due to this the citizens of these colonies are given weighted voting rights in Supreme Governing Council elections (one colonial vote = ½ the vote of a citizen of the Imperium proper).
Second, from the moment of their inception their militaries were constructed as ancillary formations of the Imperial Guard… fully integrated into the Reformentian military command structure and with universally standardized equipment and ordnance. Units of all colonial military formations are periodically rotated through duty stations both in the Imperium proper and in other colonial territories to provide operational familiarity both with other units of the Guard and with the various theatres of Imperial responsibility. Likewise, Reformentian units of the Guard are periodically rotated out to all colonial territories. The colonial governments have full control over the staffing of their own guard units in all positions below flag ranks. To achieve a flag rank in the Imperial Guard however (including any of its ancillary colonial units) requires approval from Reformentian Imperial Command Central, and the officer candidate in question must have undergone and satisfactorily completed training at the Central Imperial Military Academy in Reformentia.
Technologically, all colonies share a common tech base with the Imperium. The bulk of military R&D is performed in Reformentia while each colony focuses the bulk of its military spending on outfitting its forces to the highest current equipment standards, however in the interests of maintaining a level of diversity and vitality in the experimental research fields each colony does maintain a certain limited discretionary research budget of their own to pursue independent projects, which if successful are evaluated for mainline adoption by the Imperial Guard forces throughout the Coalition. (The kinetic launch platforms currently employed by the Imperial Guard for orbital tactical and strategic bombardments were the result of one such development program in the Lunar Protectorate)
