The Republic of Ireland is split into eight regions for NUTS statistical purposes. These are not related to the four traditional provinces but are based on the administrative counties.

The split is as follows:
 +
 +
Border: The counties of Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Louth, Monaghan, Sligo
 +
West: The counties of Galway, Mayo and Roscommon
 +
Midland: The counties of Laois, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath
 +
Mid-East: The counties of Kildare, Meath and Wicklow
 +
Dublin Region: the city of Dublin, and the counties of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin
 +
South-East: The counties of Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford
 +
South-West: The counties of Cork and Kerry
 +
Mid-West: The counties of Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary
 +
 +
This split should not be confused with the 4 Irish European Parliament Constituencies or the Health Boards, both of which are also based on multiples of the counties. In the case of the Health Boards, however, some regions are the same as above. Indeed other government organisations used different groupings to form their own regions, depending on the needs of the organisation.
